Angelo C. Catrone, age 86, of Brockton, husband of the late Marion (Cahill) Catrone, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2015 surrounded by his loving family in the home of his son, Peter of Bridgewater. Also caring and comforting him at his bedside were his daughters Paula and Katie and daughter-in-law Rosemary. Angelo was honored in death as he was in life by his many grandchildren who came together in typical fashion and gathered around their beloved Papa as they did every “Sunday Spaghetti Day” at the family home in Brockton. Angelo was born in Boston on February 22, 1929 to the late Paul and Grace (Boncore) Cutrona not long after their emigrating from Italy. Angelo, or “Sonny” as his brother and sisters called him, was pre-deceased by his sisters Angelinna Gano, Maryann Puzzanghera and his brother Joseph Catrone. He is survived by his sisters, Grace Jones, Lillian Lall and Katherine Ricci. Eager to serve his country, Angelo joined the service in 1948. While in the Navy, he was a competitive boxing champion who won the Golden Gloves, which was evident in the impromptu boxing lessons he would loving give to his son and then his grandsons in the middle of the kitchen while the dishes were still being cleared of the remnants of Nana’s spaghetti and meatballs. Upon being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Angelo traveled the country with his beautiful young bride and worked odd jobs along their way to California. After settling back in Boston, he worked as a presser for many years and was a dedicated representative in The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America AFL-CIO. Angelo retired from Brockton Hospital in 1996 where he was fondly known as “Big Al.” Angelo’s children, Paula and her husband Paul Bethoney, Kate and her husband Alan Goodhue, Peter Catrone and his wife Rosemary along with his 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren will celebrate his life at a private graveside service. In keeping with Angelo’s final wishes, there will be no visiting hours. Please consider making a donation in Angelo’s name to Hope Health Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
